Foundations checkpoint — you can read the market now
Domain capstone. Five courses ago you looked up a famous company because an academy asked you to. Look at what stands behind that same glance today.
The five-course arc
- Your First Market Steps — what a stock IS, how buying works, the instrument zoo, why prices move and how losses feel.
- How Markets Work — the players, the venues, indexes, and the rules that keep the game honest.
- Reading the Market — charts, volume, news, and the data-literacy reflexes that guard everything else.
- Macro for Markets — rates as gravity, inflation's engines, the central-bank thermostat, the calendar where it lands.
- Risk & Return Essentials — time's exchange rate, honest return math, risk in numbers, and the free lunch with its fine print.
Run today's financial news through all five at once and notice: there is almost no sentence left on a finance page you cannot place, question, or decode. That was the promise of Foundations — not predictions, not picks: literacy.
What the checkpoint covers
The exam draws on all five courses — with special weight on the ideas that recur across them: expectations and surprise, real vs nominal, percentage asymmetry, sample honesty, risk-vs-return pricing. Recurring across contexts is what mastery means here (your review queue has been making that point for weeks).
Where the road forks next
Foundations complete, three specialist domains open, in any order:
- Fundamental Analysis — valuing the actual businesses behind the tickers; your discounting machinery is the engine.
- Technical Analysis — the chart-reading craft, with the honest what-works-what-doesn't discussion your Course 3 skepticism deserves.
- Portfolio Management — the full mathematics of the free lunch, allocation, and performance measurement.
Different tools, one shared foundation — the one you just finished building.
Before you sit it
Each of these is a minute at your desk. Any one that is not names the lesson to reopen first.
- Say roughly what €1,000 arriving in ten years is worth today at 7% — What is a future euro worth today?
- Say why an average annual return overstates what you actually earned — Why does the average return overstate reality?
- Say what gain a 50% fall needs before you are level again — Why do losses hurt more than math suggests?
- Say what correlation has to do before mixing two assets helps at all — Why does mixing assets smooth the ride?
Try it now
- The capstone ritual: today's market-wide feed is below. Take the lead story and decode it out loud, course by course — which lens explains which clause? Course 1 for what a share and a bond are, Course 2 for who was trading and under what rules, Course 3 for what the chart and the volume said, Course 4 for the weather above it, Course 5 for what the risk actually was.
- Then check the story against the tape rather than against the adjectives. The last month of the market as a whole is below; for whichever company the story is about, open it in the Terminal and change the symbol there. With the market, or against it?

- Sit the checkpoint. Then choose your next domain — the Academy tracks your mastery across all of them; the rank ladder is watching.
