Which endpoint answers which market question

Why this matters. This is the capstone. Everything before it was so that you can do this one thing without asking anyone. Foundation: Which exchanges run the world's trading?

The drill, in four steps

Given a request from a client, in this order:

  1. Name the family. From the question alone, before opening anything.
  2. Name the source you would confirm the path in. The specification for whether it exists, the documentation for how to call it.
  3. Find the path in the generated reference at /academy/reference, which lists every endpoint beside the market question it answers.
  4. Name the public lesson that teaches what the data means, if the client needs the idea rather than the route.

Step four is the one people skip, and it is the one that separates an answer from a useful answer. A client asking for adjusted prices who does not know why adjustment exists will be back tomorrow with the same question in a different shape.

Worked examples

The client says Family Then
I need to chart five years of a stock Prices /eod/{ticker}, and send why old prices look wrong with it
Which companies have a P/E under 15 Discovery /screener, not the whole universe in a loop
Is this company profitable Fundamentals /fundamentals/{ticker}, plus is a $500 stock expensive
When does this company next report Calendars /calendar/earnings
I have an ISIN and need your symbol Reference data identifier mapping, and the integration is feasible
Show live prices on a dashboard Prices, streaming the real-time feed, not the delayed one
Something is wrong with a price None yet ticker, date, expected against actual, then the data-quality process

Note the last row. Not every question is a routing question, and recognising the ones that are not is part of the skill.

What to do when the answer is not there

Three honest outcomes, all better than a guess:

  • It exists and the vendor documents it. Common in the Marketplace. Say we sell it, say who documents it, and name who to ask.
  • It is a genuine coverage gap. Say so, and say what we do have nearby.
  • It is not a product question at all. Licensing, contracts, and how the company itself works belong elsewhere, and routing it correctly is a real answer.

Try it now

Take five real requests from the last month. Run all four steps on each, in writing. Then check yourself against /academy/reference, and count how many families you named correctly before looking. That number is what this course was for.
