When is this no longer a markets problem?

Why this matters. A course about the mind and markets has an obligation to say where its subject ends. This lesson draws that line and stops.

Everything in this domain describes things that happen to people whose judgement is working normally, under conditions that make judgement hard. There is a different category of difficulty, and no markets course is the right place for it.

What has been documented, described plainly

Research on harmful patterns of market activity describes, among other things: increasing position size specifically to recover previous losses; concealing the extent of activity from people close to the person; borrowing in order to continue; and continuing after having decided to stop. These are documented patterns observed in populations. They are described here in the third person because that is the only responsible way to describe them.

What this page cannot do

It cannot tell anyone whether any of it applies to them. This is a markets curriculum. We are not qualified to assess anyone, there is no checklist here to score, and there is no threshold at which a page becomes an assessment.

Nothing above is a test. Recognising something in a description is not a finding, and neither is failing to.

What exists

Support exists — national services and qualified professionals, in every jurisdiction we serve. That is the appropriate destination for this category of question, and it is a category this course is not equipped to enter.

We deliberately do not name or link a specific provider. The right one depends on where a person is, and a global course recommending one service would be worse than useless.

The one thing worth saying plainly

Difficulty of this kind is not a character failure and it is not a shortage of discipline. Framing it that way is common, it is wrong, and it is the most reliable way to keep someone from asking for help. Nothing in this domain implies a person in difficulty made an error of character.

Not a record. A line drawn in advance — a note of who you would talk to, made now, while the question is abstract.
